BTS Returns to AMAs, Nominated for Artist of the Year
BTS will be making a direct appearance at this year's American Music Awards or AMAs. This is the first direct appearance of the K-pop group at the event in almost five years.
As reported by Yonhap, Thursday, May 21, BTS is scheduled to attend the 52nd AMAs at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, Las Vegas, on May 25.
BTS is nominated for three awards this year. They are competing for the main awards of Artist of the Year, Song of the Summer, and Best Male K-Pop Artist.
AMAs are not a foreign stage for BTS. In 2017, the group made its United States television debut with the song "DNA" at the event. At that time, BTS became the first Korean artist to perform at the AMAs since the event began in 1974.
Since then, BTS has won 12 AMA trophies, both as a group and through individual achievements. In 2021, BTS also became the first Asian artist to win Artist of the Year.
This year, the competition in the main category is not light. BTS will face big names in the world, including Bad Bunny, Bruno Mars, Taylor Swift, and Lady Gaga.
BTS' latest song, "Swim", was also nominated for Song of the Summer. The lead single from their fifth studio album, "Arirang", was nominated with only six days of the assessment period after its release on March 30.
The same category also includes a remix version of "Dracula", a collaboration between BLACKPINK's Jennie and Australian band Tame Impala.
This year's AMAs also featured a number of performers, including K-pop group Katseye, Billy Idol, and Riley Green.
