Pamekasan Police Arrest Mother-Child Gold Theft Perpetrators from Kalimantan
PAMEKASAN - The Pamekasan Police (Polres) in East Java, arrested a mother and child gang for allegedly being the brains behind cross-provincial gold theft.
The Head of the General Criminal Investigation Unit of the Pamekasan Police, Ipda Reza, said that the two perpetrators were arrested in Dompu Regency, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), after fleeing after committing the theft.
"This arrest, thanks to the surveillance camera footage at the scene. We immediately conducted an investigation and hunted down the perpetrator," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, May 21.
The theft of gold occurred on May 2, 2026 at around 15.00 WIB at one of the gold shops in Pamekasan. The case was then reported by the victim to the police on May 9, 2026 after the loss of gold jewelry was known.
The case was a public concern after surveillance camera (CCTV) footage from the scene circulated widely and went viral on social media. From the footage, the police then identified two women who were suspected of being the perpetrators of the theft.
According to the Public Criminal Investigation Unit, Ipda Reza, his party immediately conducted an investigation after receiving a report from the victim by conducting an investigation of the crime scene and examining witnesses.
"After receiving the report, we immediately conducted a crime scene and collected information from witnesses in the field," he said.
The bright spot in the disclosure of the case was obtained after investigators received the original surveillance camera footage from the reporter on May 11, 2026.
From the results of the analysis of the footage, the police managed to identify the perpetrator and began to trace his movements.
"From the results of CCTV analysis, we managed to identify the characteristics of the perpetrators and track the direction of escape," he said.
The results of the investigation then showed that the two perpetrators had left Madura Island shortly after the incident. The two are suspected of moving from one area to another to avoid being pursued by officers.
The movement across the region made the tracking process take place until finally the police obtained information about the whereabouts of the perpetrator outside Java Island, namely in West Nusa Tenggara.
The arrest was made on Tuesday (12/5) in Dompu, NTB. This process is the result of coordination between the Resmob Team of the Pamekasan Police Criminal Investigation Unit and the police in NTB.
"After confirming the whereabouts of the perpetrator in NTB, we immediately coordinated with the Dompu Police to carry out the arrest," said Ipda Reza.
Origin Kalimantan
He explained, the two perpetrators, each with the initials UN (51) and AL (24), who are mother and son, are residents of Kalimantan. The two are suspected of not only acting in one location, but also part of a network of cross-regional theft.
"From the initial examination, the two are suspected to be part of a cross-provincial theft network," he said.
After being arrested, the two perpetrators were then taken to Pamekasan to undergo further legal proceedings. The transfer was carried out with tight escort through land and sea routes.
"After being arrested, the two of them and the evidence were immediately taken to the Pamekasan Police for further investigation. The initial evidence was a gold bracelet weighing 10 grams," he said.
The police are also still investigating the possibility of other crime scenes and a wider network of perpetrators, including the search for evidence of the crime.
"We are still developing to determine whether there are other crime scenes and tracking the whereabouts of evidence," he said.
From the results of the preliminary examination, the motive of the two perpetrators is suspected to be related to economic factors, namely being in debt. However, investigators are still conducting further in-depth investigations to determine the pattern of the crime committed.
"The initial motive that was conveyed was the economic factor, but we are still investigating further," said Reza.
