Cement Raw Material Leakage Causes 'Ash Rain' in Kemang Bogor

BOGOR - The leakage of cement raw materials in the Kemang District area, Bogor Regency, West Java, caused an event resembling "ash rain" which had an impact on dozens of residents' houses in Jampang Batas RT 001/RW 001 Village, Jampang Village.

Kemang Police Chief AKP Yulita Heriyanti said around 24 families were affected by the flying and polluting cement raw material.

"The incident was around 09.30 WIB. Around 24 KK, their houses became dirty due to the raw materials of the cement," said Yulita as reported by ANTARA, Thursday, May 21.

According to him, the incident was allegedly caused by a leak of cement raw materials at PT Mortar Nasional Indonesia which is located in the area.

The police together with related parties immediately went to the scene to carry out initial handling and ask for information from the company.

Yulita explained that firefighters also helped clean the remaining cement material that was stuck on the roof and part of the residents' houses by being sprayed with water.

"For now, the location is gradually conducive. There are no injured or dead. The company is ready to take responsibility," he said.

The Jampang Village Government also went directly to the location after receiving reports from the community. The Head of Jampang Village Wawan Hermawan said that his party had instructed the village apparatus together with Bhabinkamtibmas and Babinsa to carry out checks and handling on the ground.

"We ask that cleaning be carried out immediately and it is currently being carried out through damkar," said Wawan.

He also encouraged the company to take anticipatory steps so that similar incidents do not recur and provide compensation to affected residents.

According to him, currently the local RT chairman is conducting a data collection of residents who are affected by the leakage of cement raw materials.

"According to the company's report, they are fully responsible. Tomorrow our plan is to have a meeting with management related to this disaster," he said.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Bogor Regency Fire and Rescue Service, Yudi Santosa, said his party did not handle the incident directly, but helped the cleaning process at the affected location.

"Damkar does not handle it directly, just help clean it up," said Yudi.
