Indonesia Condemns Israel Following 5 Indonesian Nationals Detained
Jakarta - Indonesia strongly condemns the actions of the Israeli military which detained a number of international humanitarian mission volunteers, including five Indonesian citizens (WNI). This was conveyed by the Head of the Presidential Staff Office (KSP) General Purnawirawan Dudung Abdurachman at the Presidential Palace Complex, Jakarta, Tuesday, May 19.
Five of the nine Indonesian citizens who are participating in the international humanitarian mission Global Summit Flotilla (GSF) 2.0 around the waters of Cyprus. According to Dudung, the government immediately carried out cross-ministry coordination, especially with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to ensure the safety of Indonesian citizens involved in the mission.
He emphasized that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemned Israel's actions in preventing international humanitarian missions and arresting a number of volunteers, including Indonesian citizens who were part of the Global Peace Convoy Indonesia group. Based on government data, there were nine Indonesian citizens who participated in the mission.
Of that number, five Indonesian citizens were reported to have been arrested, while the other four were still on different ships around the waters of Cyprus and the Eastern Mediterranean. Dudung explained that the government through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs had coordinated with a number of Indonesian representatives abroad to anticipate various possibilities.
Dudung emphasized that the Indonesian government would continue to monitor the development of the situation and ensure that the protection of Indonesian citizens was carried out to the maximum.
