Black Horses Release Jahanam Album, A New Era of Classic Rock with Indonesian Lyrics
JAKARTA - The rock unit from Jakarta, Black Horses, officially marked a new chapter in their musical journey. After previously releasing the single "Tirani Tua" and "Distorsi Menggema", the band finally released their third album titled "Jahanam".
Under the auspices of Firefly Records (a subsidiary of Musica Records), this album is a milestone for the group led by Oscario (vocals), Kevin Indriawan (guitar), Lucky Azhary (bass), and Julian Aditya (drums). The reason is that "Jahanam" is the first album by Black Horses whose lyrics are all in Indonesian.
The presence of John Paul Patton alias Coki (Rocket Flyers, Ali, Portura) as a producer gives a new color to this album. Coki not only sits behind the scenes, but is also involved in writing several songs.
Musically, "Jahanam" offers an exploration of classic rock that feels fresh but still has a 'dirty' and explosive impression. The lyrics are full of satirical messages that are firm and realistic, reflecting the social phenomena that occur around.
"This album is a form of response for the Kusir (the name of Black Horses fans) and our listeners to be able to relate more to what we have felt lately, especially the situation around us, whatever the context," Oscario said in his statement, Tuesday, May 19.
The album "Jahanam" contains a total of 9 songs. From the row of available tracks, Black Horses chose "Jejak Waktu" as the focus track. This song is considered as a bridge to their musical maturity without having to lose their identity as a rock band.
Along with the album release, Black Horses also released a music video (MV) for "Jejak Waktu". Through this visual work, they seem to want to convey the message that cruelty does not always have to be expressed with harsh words.
For the personnel, "Jahanam" is not just a collection of new songs. Lucky Azhary calls this work an artifact of time.
"This is more than just an album, it's a sign of the times from Black Horses for all of us who live in Indonesia," said Lucky.
Meanwhile, in terms of production, Coki admitted that there were challenges in aligning the band's idealism with the audience's needs.
"The challenge is more to the output that we both want ideally, but it must also relate to the audience," said Coki.
Through the album "Jahanam", Black Horses wants to share a sense of freedom and courage in taking a stand. They believe that what is decided today will have an impact on future generations.
Currently, the album "Jahanam" can be enjoyed on various digital music platforms. For rock music lovers who miss the raw energy with relevant lyrics, this album is a menu that must be included in the playlist.
