Turkish-Syrian-Iraqi Land Logistics Chain Comes Back to Life After 13 Years of Civil War

JAKARTA - The Syrian government reported that a convoy of logistics vehicles passed through the Tal Abyad border crossing on the Turkish-Syrian border and then moved through the Al-Yarubiyah-Rabia crossing in Iraq on Monday, May 18.

The director of public relations at the Syrian General Border and Customs Authority, Mazen Alloush, said the convoy strengthens Syria's role as part of a regional logistics center that connects neighboring markets.

"The authorities continue to facilitate transit and customs procedures while improving operational and logistical readiness at border crossings to ensure the smooth movement of trucks and goods," Alloush told the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA), quoted by AN, Monday, May 18.

The passage of logistics vehicles at the Syrian-Turkish border to Iraq is an important moment because it revives the transport and trade routes in Syria that were devastated and abandoned as a result of the civil war from 2011-2024.

Syria and Iraq reopened the highly important Al-Yarubiyah-Rabia crossing in April 2026 after almost 13 years of closure due to the Syrian civil war.

The Syrian government is responsible for four border crossings with Iraq and 12 with Turkey in northeastern Syria.
