U-23 Player Regulation in the Super League Will Be Removed Next Season

I-League (formerly PT Liga Indonesia Baru) as the operator of the Super League competition ensures that it will remove regulations that require U-23 players to play for 45 minutes in the highest level league in Indonesia in the upcoming season.

I-League Competition Director Asep Saputra said that there were actually not many rules that they had to overhaul for the upcoming season, except for abolishing the U-23 player regulation.

"Next season there will only be changes in the U-23 player regulations," said Asep in Bekasi after the Elite Pro Academy (EPA) Super League final event which took place on Sunday, May 17, 2026.

The regulation that regulates all clubs must play at least one U-23 player as a starter with a minimum playing time of 45 minutes or one half is a regulation that is included in the 2025/2026 competition, which is currently in its final phase.

Asep revealed that this regulatory change was carried out after they had gone through various considerations and discussions with all parties concerned. He also ensured that other details related to this would be updated soon.

"Yesterday we presented it in front of us, but once again, that's what we've been talking about. Later, what the details are like, if it's official, you guys can see for yourself," he said.

Meanwhile, for the regulation of foreign players next season is certain not to change. Thus, each club can register a quota of 11 foreign players to participate in the highest level competition in Indonesia.

Of that number, clubs can only bring nine of them for one match and seven enter the list of players who can go on the field.

Currently, the 2025/2026 Super League competition is left to play one match. The opportunity to win the title is still owned by Persib Bandung as the defending champion and Borneo FC.

Persib is currently sitting at the top of the standings with 78 points or two points ahead of Borneo FC. Bojan Hodak's team only needs to hold their opponents in the last match to climb to the top of the podium at the end of the season.
