Break the National Record at the National Aquatic Championships, DIY Athletes Receive Awards

YOGYAKARTA - Yogyakarta Special Region (DIY) swimmer Arya Adrean Putra Haryono made an impressive achievement by breaking the national record and surpassing the SEA Games record at the 2026 Indonesian Aquatic National Games. Arya also raised the DIY aquatic achievement so that he received an award in the form of a bonus from the Chairman of the Indonesian Aquatic Association DIY Maryanto.

Ketum Maryanto conveyed the bonus for Arya and coach Papin Prasetyo on the sidelines of the Regional Working Meeting (Rakerda) of the Indonesian Aquatic Federation DIY in Sleman, Yogyakarta, Saturday, May 9, 2026. The bonus is a form of appreciation for Arya's extraordinary achievement at the Kejurnas held at the GBK Aquatic Stadium, Senayan, Jakarta which took place from April 28, 2026 to May 7, 2026.

The 19-year-old swimmer, who is listed as a student at the Yogyakarta State University (UNY), has indeed recorded an impressive achievement. When appearing in the 100-meter breaststroke, Arya not only became the fastest when he finished with a time of 1 minute 0.88 seconds. He also broke the national record held by M. Dwiky Raharjo with a time of 1:01.75. Not only that, Arya also surpassed the SEA Games record of Pham Thanh Bao who recorded a time of 1:00.97.

Arya's achievements are extraordinary because for the first time after almost 40 years, athletes from DIY have broken the national record. Previously, swimmers from DIY, Whilton Leo and Boyke Dharma, broke the national record when competing in the 1987 SEA Games. Whilton Leo did it in the 200 meter butterfly. Meanwhile, Boyke Dharma broke the record in the 4x200 meter freestyle relay.

The head of the Indonesian Aquatic Association for DIY, Maryanto, said Arya's achievement deserved appreciation. Moreover, he also won gold medals in the 50 meter and 200 meter breaststroke. Meanwhile, in the 50 meter butterfly, the student who took Sports Training Education (PKO) at UNY won silver after finishing in second place, which made him the best KU open swimmer. The Indonesian Aquatic Association for DIY also awarded Arya a bonus of Rp. 20 million.

"It is a proud achievement because after waiting for 40 years, finally a DIY track athlete emerged who was able to break the national record. Not only the national record, Arya also surpassed the SEA Games record," said Maryanto.

"The bonus is a form of appreciation for athletes to be more motivated to achieve higher achievements. Moreover, Arya has also entered the national team and there is hope to perform at the Asian Games and break into the 2027 SEA Games," said the chairman.

DIY itself overall made a brilliant achievement at the National Games. Not only Arya but other athletes such as Al Fath Mahesa also contributed to the butterfly style. Not only that, he also won one silver medal, and one bronze. Meanwhile, Sekar Anggita Nareswari won silver in the Solo Free Routine Event.

In addition, Gloria Adara Pramudita Wibowo achieved impressive achievements by winning silver in the Stroke Event Torpedo 25 meters and bronze in the KU C Duet Event with Elova Griselda Putri Dehasto.

"We are grateful that the DIY athletes have won a number of medals at the National Games. Of course, we hope that this achievement can be improved," said Maryanto.

According to the chairman, the achievements of Arya and a number of other athletes at the National Games are an effort from the National Sports Agency to carry out a long-term program to produce outstanding athletes. If they are able to carve out achievements, they will eventually enter the national team to perform at international championships.

"The task of the Pengda is nothing more than to bring the children to the national level. Pengda has prepared a long-term program for the training of athletes. In the previous period, we have not yet produced an outstanding athlete. However, this period has given better results," said Maryanto again.

The DIY Aquatic, previously, also contributed athletes who competed in the 2025 SEA Games. Not only that, they also successfully won medals. Avicenna Aqeel Umarella athletes were part of the men's water polo team that won silver after losing to Singapore in the final.

Meanwhile, Amazia Keyko Radisty and Theresia Putri Argya Wibowo are part of the women's water polo team, which then won a bronze medal after finishing in third place.

Meanwhile, Arya said he was satisfied to break the national record. However, he ensured that he would not stop until the national record was broken because he was targeting to perform in international events.

"I hope to qualify for the 2026 Asian Games. It's just that the competition in Asia is very tight. Not only from China but also Japan, South Korea which is not easy to face. In the Asian Games, I focus on achieving the best time first because it is difficult to win medals," said Arya. He actually aimed for the 2027 SEA Games in Malaysia. In this multi-event event in Southeast Asia, Arya hopes to carve out achievements.

At that time, according to Ketum Maryanto, DIY Aquatics was preparing athletes in five subcabors with the target of winning medals at the 2028 PON. Pengda will also collaborate with Kadin to become a foster company for athletes.

"We will also collaborate with universities, Dispora and Garuda scholarships in the hope that athletes will still get schools for their future," said Maryanto. (*)
