DKI Governor Supports Law Enforcement to Punish Italian WN Jambret at HI Roundabout

JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung supports law enforcement officials to take firm action against perpetrators of jambret against foreign nationals (WNA) in the Bundaran Hotel Indonesia (HI) area, Central Jakarta.

"If you are caught, you will be punished as hard as possible," said Pramono after inaugurating the Tian Fu Gong temple area in PIK, North Jakarta, Sunday.

According to him, street criminal acts such as begal and gangsterism should not be allowed because they can disrupt public safety and tarnish the image of Jakarta as a global city.

The statement was made after Pramono received information that the perpetrator of the robbery against the foreigner had been successfully secured by the police on Friday (15/5).

Pramono admitted that he had not previously followed the details of the case. However, he said that the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government fully supported the steps of the authorities in eradicating criminal acts in the capital.

"Jakarta is now the second safest city in ASEAN. And of course this momentum must be maintained together," said Pramono.

He assessed that security is an important factor for Jakarta as a center of government, business, and tourism. Therefore, all parties are asked to help keep the situation conducive so that the public and tourists feel safe in public spaces.
