JAKARTA - The government through the Ministry of Religion (Kemenag) RI announced that 1 Zulhijah 1446 Hijriah/2026 Masehi fell on Monday, May 18, 2026, so that Eid al-Adha fell on Wednesday, May 27, 2026.
"Based on the results of the calculation and the hilal report, it was agreed that 1 Zulhijah 1447 Hijri fell on Monday, May 18, 2026, so that Eid al-Adha fell on Wednesday, May 27, 2026," said Minister of Religion Nasaruddin Umar when delivering the results of the Isbat Meeting in Jakarta, Sunday.
The decision was obtained after the results of the moon sighting (rukyatul) which was carried out from 88 different locations in Indonesia.
From the results of monitoring, the crescent has exceeded the criteria set by the Ministers of Religion of Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore (MABIMS) regarding the new Hijri moon, which requires a crescent height of 3 degrees and an elongation of 6.4 degrees.
The Minister of Religion stated that the decision was the result of the rukyatul hilal report brought in the isbat session, and had been deliberated by scholars, community organization (ormas) figures, experts in astronomy and astronomy, and other community figures.
The data, he said, was also synchronized with the calculation method which was calculated mathematically and astronomically, and had been collected by the Rukyat Team of the Ministry of Religion of the Republic of Indonesia some time ago.
Previously, Muhammadiyah through the method of the Single Global Hijri Calendar (KHGT), Iduladha 10 Zulhijah 1447 Hijriah fell on Wednesday, May 27, 2026. Meanwhile, Arafah Day or 9 Zulhijah 1447 Hijriah fell on Tuesday, May 26, 2026 and the beginning of the month of Zulhijah began on Monday, May 18, 2026.
This determination is based on the results of global astronomical calculations using the Global Calendar Parameters (PKG), a system designed to provide uniformity of the beginning of the Hijri month for all Muslims in the world.
In this system, the determination of the beginning of the month is no longer dependent on the boundaries of the country, but rather uses the principle of global visibility of the crescent moon.
