Police Dive to Evacuate Cellphone of Tourist Who Fell on Pari Island
JAKARTA - Heroic action was carried out by personnel from the South Thousand Islands Police who dived into the sea to find a tourist's mobile phone that had fallen into the Pari Island Pier, Thousand Islands, North Jakarta.
The Head of the Thousand Islands Police, AKBP Argadija Putra, said the incident occurred on Friday at around 10.30 WIB when the KM Diamond 21 ship was preparing to depart for Muara Angke Port, North Jakarta.
The victim, who is the owner of a mobile phone, moved to the boat without realizing that the zipper of his bag was open, causing the mobile phone to fall into the sea.
Knowing that his cellphone fell into the waters of the pier, the victim immediately shouted for help to the tour guide.
Because the boat had started to move away from the pier, the tour guide immediately reported the incident to the members of the Pari Island Sub-sector who were carrying out pier security and community services.
Even though the pier situation was crowded by the mobilization activities of passenger ships and tourists, police officers still responded to the report quickly and responsibly.
The search process was carried out carefully with the diving method during the day at around 16.00 WIB.
"Thanks to cooperation and the spirit of service to the community, two diving personnel from the Pari Island Sub-sector together with one Damkar personnel finally managed to find the tourist's cellphone at the bottom of the sea around the pier area," said AKBP Argadija when confirmed, Sunday, May 17, 2026.
Fortunately, when the officers found it, the cell phone was still alive and could be used again.
The plan is that the phone will be returned to its owner through a tour guide who accompanies the tourist while on Pari Island.
"This is a form of humanistic service for the public by members of the National Police. No matter how small the report of the citizens, we will respond quickly. The presence of members in the field must really be felt by the community and tourists," he said.
