Long Holiday, Mount Rinjani Visited by 1,505 People

JAKARTA - The Mount Rinjani National Park Office (TNGR) recorded the number of tourist visits who climbed Mount Rinjani Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) reached 1,505 people during the long holiday in mid-May 2026.

"The number of tourists on Mount Rinjani during the long holiday from May 14-16, 2026 reached 1,505 climbers, both local and foreign tourists," said Head of the Administrative Affairs Sub-section at the NTB TNGR Office, Astekita in Mataram, Sunday.

He said that on May 14 the number of tourists who climbed was recorded at 587 people, on May 15 it was recorded at 453 people and on May 16 it was recorded at 466 people.

"So the total number of tourists during the long holiday consists of 965 local tourists and 540 foreign tourists," he said.

The natural tourism destination routes for climbing Mount Rinjani that tourists visited include the Senaru climbing route, Torean route, Sembalun route, Timbanuh route, Tetebatu route and Aik Berik climbing route.

"Compared to last week's visitor data which reached 1,216 people, tourist visits during this long weekend have increased," he said.

Meanwhile, Head of the NTB TNGR Office, Budhy Kurniawan, said that the construction of a rest shelter on the Mount Rinjani climbing route was part of efforts to improve facilities and the safety of climbers in the Mount Rinjani National Park area.

"This shelter is designed with a sturdy structure, ergonomic design, and will be equipped with solar panels to support the need for environmentally friendly energy on the climbing route," he said.

He said that his presence is expected to be a safe stopover for climbers to rest, shelter from extreme weather, and recover energy before continuing their journey.

Not just a place to shelter, this rest shelter is a form of commitment in presenting a better climbing experience without neglecting the sustainability of Rinjani's nature.

"Let's work together to maintain the facilities that have been built, maintain the cleanliness of the path, and continue to love Rinjani with real actions," he said.
