Thailand Open 2026: Leo/Daniel Care for Indonesia's Hope

JAKARTA - The men's doubles Leo Rolly Carnando/Daniel Marthin managed to continue their journey at the 2026 Thailand Open to the semifinals while maintaining Indonesia's hopes of winning the title.

The pair, who have just returned together, reached the last four of the tournament by stopping the hosts' representatives Peeratchai Sukphun/Pakkapon Teeraratsakul in a two-game match 21-16 and 21-15 on Friday, May 15, 2026, afternoon WIB.

"Praise God, thank you (for reaching the semi-finals). It's not easy to play against the hosts, but we were able to control the game from the start," said Daniel after the match, quoted from the statement received.

Leo/Daniel appeared very dominant in this match. In the first game they were ahead by as many as nine points at the interval and were distracted, but their opponents couldn't equalize the score.

In the second game, they immediately took the lead and did not give their opponents the opportunity to equalize. After making a seven-point lead at the break, Leo/Daniel continued their solid performance to the semifinals.

"Indeed, after the first game interval we were a bit careless, so we lost many points. However, after that we were able to fix it," said Daniel explaining.

This is Leo/Daniel's second victory from three clashes with the Thai pair. Another victory occurred at the 2021 SEA Games which took place in Vietnam.

In the semifinal round, Leo/Daniel will meet He Ji Ting/Ren Xiang Yu. The Chinese men's doubles team qualified for the top four after defeating the Chinese Taipei representative, Che Zhi Ray/Lin Yu Chieh, in a three-game match.

"Tomorrow against He Ji Ting/Ren Xiang Yu (China), it is prepared better again. I have met him before, so I remember how it was then and don't repeat the same mistakes again," said Leo.

Leo/Daniel is the only representative of Indonesia who survived in this BWF Super 500 level tournament. They fought in the last eight with Isyana Syahira Meida/Rinjani Kwinnara Nastine, but the women's doubles lost to the first-seeded Rin Iwanaga/Kie Nakanishi from Japan.
