Polda Metro Reveals 171 Cases in Several Months
JAKARTA - The Directorate of Criminal Investigation (Ditreskrimum) of the Metro Jaya Police has uncovered 171 cases of criminal acts of theft with charges (curat), theft with violence (curas), and theft of motor vehicles (curanmor) in recent months.
Dirreskrimum Polda Metro Jaya, Kombes Pol Iman Imanudin, said the disclosure was a form of the police's commitment to maintaining public security and order in the jurisdiction of the Polda Metro Jaya.
"We take this firm step as a form of commitment by the Metro Jaya Police in providing a sense of security to the community and maintaining the atmosphere of the area from vigilante and street crime," he told the media at the Metro Jaya Police, South Jakarta, Friday, May 15, 2026.
He explained that out of the total 171 police reports that were successfully revealed, there were 86 cases of theft with charges, 10 cases of theft with violence, and 75 cases of theft of motor vehicles.
According to him, the disclosure is also the result of the police's rapid response to various viral cases circulating on social media.
"Of the 13 cases that have become public concern and viral on social media, we have all managed to reveal through investigation, processing of crime scenes, examination of witnesses, and digital forensic analysis," he said.
In the disclosure, continued Iman, investigators named 103 people as suspects and all of them had been detained at the Metro Jaya Police Detention Center.
The police also secured a number of evidence in the form of 53 units of motorcycles, four units of cars, 65 mobile phones, eight sharp weapons, five firearms, 27 bullets, and CCTV footage from various locations of the incident,
"CCTV footage and electronic evidence are analyzed through a digital forensic laboratory to trace the movements of the perpetrators," said Iman.
The suspects were charged with Article 477 of the Criminal Code with a threat of 10 years in prison, Article 479 of the Criminal Code with a threat of nine years in prison, Article 307 of the Criminal Code with a threat of seven years in prison, and Article 591 of the Criminal Code for the accomplice with a threat of four years in prison.
Furthermore, Iman also revealed a number of prominent cases that were successfully revealed, ranging from the theft of empty houses, the theft of motor vehicles with vandalism that went viral on social media, to theft in places of worship and residential areas.
Some of the cases revealed include those at the Halim Perdanakusuma Swimming Pool, the Mutmainah Mosque in Jagakarsa, the Petamburan area, Kampung Gusti, Tanjung Priok, Tambora, to the Steak and Shake stall parking area in Tangerang.
The police also managed to uncover a case of stealing money at the PT Sumber Alfaria Trijaya store as well as a number of other criminal acts in the Bekasi and Depok areas.
Iman emphasized that the entire investigation process was carried out in accordance with applicable legal procedures, ranging from processing the crime scene, examining witnesses, to digital forensic analysis.
"For perpetrators who resist during forced efforts, officers are forced to take firm and measured action by considering the safety of the community and members in the field," he said.
He also appealed to the public to continue to play an active role in providing information related to criminal acts in the surrounding environment.
