Vice President Calls High Unemployment Rate Due To Community Unpreparedness
JAKARTA - Vice President Ma'ruf Amin said that the cause of the high unemployment rate and low competitiveness in Indonesia was the people's unpreparedness to adapt to changes in the world of work and industry.

The high unemployment rate in Indonesia was exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic, which according to the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reached 19.1 million. In addition, the number of productive age population continues to increase and people who have very little job training experience, said the Vice President.
Therefore, the Vice President said that speed, accuracy, and efficiency are needed as important foundations to create superior human resources (HR) who are ready to compete.
"For that, speed, accuracy, and efficiency are needed as an important foundation to be able to compete against other countries in the current era of digital technology," said the Vice President.
The real challenge for employment is to prepare superior human resources who are able to deal with digital technology issues, such as big data, artificial intelligence, and the internet of things.
To create a reliable workforce, said the Vice President, local governments, the private sector, academics, community organizations, and religious institutions must be actively involved with the central government.
"The government cannot work alone, it requires the involvement of local governments, SOEs, the private sector, universities, community organizations, including religious institutions such as Islamic boarding schools scattered in various remote areas," he said.
