Head of the East Java Health Office, dr. Erwin Astha Triyono, said the case was revealed after the Ministry of Health conducted a follow-up examination on a patient who had previously been diagnosed with leptospirosis.
"The patient is positive for leptospira, then by the Ministry of Health asked to conduct a deeper examination. The result is positive for hantavirus," Erwin told reporters, Thursday, May 14.
According to Erwin, the patient initially experienced symptoms of leptospirosis zoonosis such as high fever and yellowing of the body.
He explained that leptospirosis generally attacks adults more than children.
After the results of the examination showed that the patient was positive for hantavirus, the medical team immediately carried out intensive treatment until the patient's condition improved and was declared cured.
"Now the patient has recovered, the results are good," he said.
Erwin added that until now no other similar cases have been found in East Java.
"The case is January 2026. If it is now there is no more," he said.
