Police Expert Urges Central Kalimantan to Build Smart Traffic to Reduce Accidents
PALANGKARAYA - Central Kalimantan is encouraged to immediately build an intelligent traffic system to reduce accidents and fatalities on the road. The encouragement was conveyed by the Chairman of IKA SPS UNNES and also the Central Police Study Center, Inspector General of Police Dr. Susilo Teguh Raharjo, in the Working Meeting of the Central Kalimantan 2026 Regional Level Road Transport Traffic Forum, Wednesday, May 13.
Susilo assessed that the traffic problem in Central Kalimantan could not be seen only from congestion or violations. Geographical conditions, growth in citizen mobility, infrastructure readiness, to the ability of local governments to read accident data must be the basis of policy.
"An example of one of the important discussions that are predictive in dealing with traffic problems is the development of smart cities and smart mobility," said Susilo in his statement.
According to Susilo, smart mobility is important to improve safety, transportation efficiency, traffic surveillance, and digital-based public services. Without a scalable system, traffic handling will continue to be reactive and difficult to reduce casualties.
Susilo explained that the implementation of smart cities in the traffic sector can be carried out through Electronic Traffic Law Enforcement or ETLE, CCTV, integrated command center, real-time traffic monitoring, accident big data, integration of emergency services, digitization of vehicle and SIM services, supervision of vehicles over dimension over loading or ODOL based on technology, and the use of AI and IoT in transportation.
He recommended that the discussion begin now so that North Kalimantan has a safer, orderly, and integrated traffic service system. The goal is not only to facilitate mobility, but to reduce accidents to zero accidents and zero fatalities.
The working meeting was also a space for collaboration between the Center for Police Science Studies, IKA SPS UNNES, the Central Kalimantan Provincial Government, and the Central Kalimantan Police in community service and capacity building for human resources.
"This activity is an implementation of collaboration between the Police Science Study Center, IKA SPS UNNES, the Provincial Government of North Kalimantan, and the North Kalimantan Police," said Susilo.
The event was attended by the Governor of North Kalimantan Agustiar Sabran, North Kalimantan Police Chief Inspector General Pol Iwan Kurniawan, Head of the Police Study Center, Inspector General Pol Prof. Dr. Cryshnanda D.L., North Kalimantan Police Chief Brig. Gen. Pol Yosi Muhamartha, North Kalimantan Provincial Secretary Linae Victoria Aden, and related officials.
