DKI Provincial Government Partners with San Siro Stadium for JIS Governance Transformation

JAKARTA - Deputy Governor (Wagub) of DKI Jakarta, Rano Karno, initiated a discussion of cooperation between San Siro Stadium and Jakarta International Stadium (JIS). The meeting took place at the San Siro Stadium, Milan, Italy, on Tuesday, May 12.

The Deputy Governor of Rano together with the delegation of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government (Pemprov) met with the General Manager of San Siro Stadium, Fabrizio Caruso, and the Business Development of San Siro Stadium, Michele Finucci.

This meeting discussed opportunities for exchanging knowledge related to the management of international stadiums, the organization of events, the development of stadium museums, grass nursery technology, and strategies for building fan engagement in maintaining stadium facilities.

The Deputy Governor of Rano said that Jakarta needed to learn from the experience of San Siro as one of the world's football icons. According to him, modern stadiums should not only serve as a place for matches, but also must become a sports tourism destination, a creative economy space, an entertainment center, and a pride icon for residents.

"San Siro is one of the world's football icons that has been around for 100 years since 1925 and continues to grow to have a capacity of 75,000 spectators. We come not just to visit, but to learn how a stadium can live as a space of history, business, entertainment, and become the pride of the people. JIS has great potential to develop in that direction," said Rano in a press statement, Thursday, May 14.

The Deputy Governor of Rano encouraged PT Jakarta Propertindo as the manager of the Jakarta International Stadium to follow up on communication and knowledge transfer with the San Siro Stadium. He hopes that the collaboration can include stadium management, management of large-scale events, optimization of non-match activities, and development of visitor experiences so that JIS has activities throughout the year.

This meeting is also in line with the plan for AC Milan to arrive in Jakarta on August 8, 2026 to face Chelsea FC in a preseason match at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium (SUGBK). The Deputy Governor of Rano assessed that the plan showed that Jakarta has great appeal as an international football market and a city that hosts world-class sports events.

"The arrival of AC Milan to Jakarta is an important signal. The world sees Jakarta as a market, as a stage, and as a city that has a great passion for football. So our task is to ensure that Jakarta is ready not only as a host of the match, but also as a city that is able to present a world-class experience," he said.

The Deputy Governor of Rano emphasized that the experience of San Siro was important for Jakarta because JIS was designed as a strategic infrastructure to support Jakarta's position as a global city. He hopes that this collaboration will be the first step in expanding JIS's international network in the aspects of stadium management, event organization, sports tourism promotion, and the development of visitor experience content.

On this occasion, the DKI Jakarta delegation also toured the museum and stadium to see firsthand how San Siro manages the history of AC Milan and Inter Milan as part of the visitor experience. The delegation received an explanation regarding museum management, stadium tours, club history narratives, and how San Siro maintains the emotional relationship between the stadium, the club, and its supporters.

Michele Finucci said San Siro is open to sharing experiences with Jakarta. According to him, modern stadiums must be managed not only as a match arena, but also as a public experience space that has historical, economic, and emotional value.

"San Siro is a very historic stadium. We have a long experience in managing matches, stadium tours, museums, and various activities involving fans. We are happy to share our experiences and discuss with the delegation from Jakarta about how the stadium can be managed as a venue for matches, a tourist destination, as well as a public interaction space," said Michele.
