Foreign Minister Lavrov Says West is Pressuring Countries Not to Buy Russian Oil

JAKARTA - Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov accused the West of using immoral methods to prevent countries from buying Russian oil.

The top Russian diplomat described putting pressure on all parties not to buy Russian oil as "an immoral method."

"The method can be called colonial or neocolonial, but this is an 'exploitation method'," he said in an interview with RT India, quoted by TASS (13/5).

"The idea behind the method is to make everyone buy expensive liquid oil and natural gas from the United States, instead of buying cheap oil from Russia," Lavrov said. This is how they try to dominate the world, by controlling global energy, the Russian foreign minister said.

However, not everyone has surrendered under this pressure, continued Lavrov. According to him, India has firmly and repeatedly stated that they will be free to determine what volume of energy to buy and from whom.

It is known that Foreign Minister Lavrov will attend the BRICS Foreign Ministers Meeting held in New Delhi, India on May 14-15.

The Middle East crisis, including the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, will be the main focus, as the fuel crisis has affected India.

Lavrov's menu is also likely to discuss the Ukrainian situation and prospects for a settlement, as well as preparations for Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Russia, along with the implementation of agreements from Putin's visit to India in December 2025.

At the BRICS meeting, participants will focus on improving global governance, increasing the role of Global South countries, and preparing for the group summit in September in New Delhi.
