Bandung Zoo Conflict Control, Kemnhut Emphasizes the City Government Meets the Needs of Animals
JAKARTA - The Ministry of Forestry (Kemenhut) stated that the Bandung City Government (Pemkot) is responsible for meeting the basic needs of animals at the Bandung Zoo during the extension of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the management of the zoo.
Director General of Natural Resources and Ecosystem Conservation (KSDAE) of the Ministry of Forestry, Satyawan Pudiyatmoko, said that the basic needs for saving these animals include feed, medicine, vitamins, and other technical needs.
"This is to ensure that the condition of the animals is maintained properly during the transition period of management," said Satyawan in a statement received in Bandung, Wednesday.
Satyawan added that the city government also continued to provide wages or honor for workers and the payment of utilities such as water, electricity, and internet.
He said that the safety and welfare of animals were the government's top priority in handling the former conservation agency.
According to him, the central government together with the Bandung City Government continues to carry out intensive coordination so that all animals receive proper treatment and care according to the principle of animal welfare or animal welfare.
"This decision was made based on the main consideration of the safety and welfare of animals, as well as the hope that the management of conservation institutions in the future can be carried out by more professional, accountable parties, and meet the standards of good animal welfare management," said Satyawan.
The Bandung City Government targets that the auction process for the new manager of the Bandung Zoo can be completed by the end of May 2026.
"So on May 29 we will get a new manager," said Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan.
Farhan explained that the selection process is still ongoing and has not reached the stage of determining the winner.
According to him, the party that participated in the auction is still in the stage of evaluating eligibility, so it is not yet certain who will be appointed as the manager.
He said that out of the approximately 85 parties who initially showed interest, now only four to five participants have officially taken the auction documents.
