10 Most Popular Car Brands in April 2026: BYD Entered the Top 3, Honda Pressed

JAKARTA - The national automotive market showed a positive trend in April 2026. Retail sales or distribution of cars from dealers to consumers recorded an increase of 13.7 percent compared to the previous month.

Based on data from the Indonesian Motor Vehicle Industry Association (Gaikindo), quoted by VOI, Wednesday, May 13, retail sales in April 2026 reached 75,730 units. This number increased from the achievement of March 2026 which was at 66,595 units.

Not only retail sales, vehicle distribution from the factory to dealers or wholesales also recorded a significant increase. Throughout April 2026, wholesales reached 80,776 units, up 31.8 percent compared to the previous month.

Cumulatively, the performance of the automotive market from January to April 2026 also experienced growth. Retail sales reached 287,581 units or increased 6.9 percent compared to the same period last year. Meanwhile, wholesales were recorded at 289,787 units, an increase of 12.5 percent year-on-year.

Toyota still maintains its dominance as the best-selling car brand in Indonesia with retail sales of 23,008 units. Daihatsu follows in second place with 12,300 units.

An interesting highlight comes from BYD which managed to break into the top three. The Chinese manufacturer recorded retail sales of 6,274 units and successfully surpassed Suzuki which was in fourth place with 5,965 units.

Mitsubishi Motors took fifth place with sales of 5,132 units, followed by Honda with 3,515 units. In the commercial vehicle segment, Mitsubishi Fuso is still the strongest player with sales of 3,452 units.

Newcomer Jaecoo also caught the attention after managing to enter the top 10 with sales of 3,009 units. Meanwhile, Honda continues to be pressured by newcomers and almost thrown out of the top 10.
