Ferdy Sambo Kuliah S2 from Prison, Ditjen PAS: Inmates Have Rights

JAKARTA - The Directorate General of Corrections (Ditjen PAS) said that the former Head of the National Police's Propam Division, Ferdy Sambo, who was convicted of premeditated murder, had the right to receive education.

This was conveyed by the Sub-Directorate of Cooperation of the Directorate General of PAS Rika Aprianti in response to news circulating on social media regarding Sambo who is currently undergoing a master's education program (S2) at the Cibinong Class IIA Penitentiary (Lapas), West Java.

"All inmates have the right to get an education," said Rika through a written statement, Wednesday, May 13.

Rika said this right was included in Law Number 22 of 2022 concerning Corrections, Article 9 letter c. "Likewise at Cibinong Prison, all inmates are given the same opportunity to continue formal education, as is currently underway, namely the pursuit of A, B and C packages to college," he said.

Furthermore, Rika said that Cibinong Prison is currently also cooperating with the Global Glow Indonesia High School (STGGI). "For the provision of S1 and S2 Theology scholarships for Christian inmates," he said.

"One of the residents who is interested in participating in the program is Ferdi Sambo," he continued.

Rika ensured that the Cibinong Class IIA Prison had given the right to education openly, objectively, and without special treatment for convicts. "All inmates have the same rights and opportunities to participate in educational training programs in accordance with applicable regulations," he said.

"This program is part of the effort to train and improve the quality of human resources for the residents so that they are ready to return and contribute positively to the community."

Circulating on social media, Ferdy Sambo is said to have graduated from the S2 level in Theology and Church Service or a double master's degree at the Global Theological Seminary of Glow Indonesia. He was sentenced to life imprisonment by the Supreme Court (MA) on August 8, 2023.
