Ask Pakistan to mediate between the US and Iran, China does not want the Strait of Hormuz problem to last long
JAKARTA - Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi asked Pakistan to increase mediation efforts between Iran and the United States (US).
AFP quoted Xinhua on Wednesday as reporting that the push was made by Yi in a telephone call with Pakistani Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar yesterday Tuesday.
One of the things Yi conveyed was that the problem of the world's vital energy route, the Strait of Hormuz, should not drag on.
Pakistan has emerged as the main mediator of the US-Iran peace talks, with Islamabad as the location of the negotiations until the second round which did not take place due to still existing obstacles from both sides of the conflict.
The latest peace proposal has been given by Iran to the US. However, US President Donald Trump asked for changes to a number of points in the proposal but was rejected by Iran yesterday Tuesday.
Iran responded to Trump's rejection as "garbage".
