DKI DPRD Requests Perlindungan Perempuan Ranperda to Reach Digital Violence
JAKARTA - The Prosperous Justice Party faction of the DKI Jakarta DPRD has asked for a Regional Regulation (Ranperda) on the Implementation of Women's Protection not only to focus on physical violence. The regulation is considered to be able to respond to the prevalence of violence against women in the digital space.
Deputy Chairman I of the PKS Faction of the DKI Jakarta DPRD, Muhammad Thamrin, assessed that the pattern of violence against women is now developing in line with the increasing use of social media and digital technology.
"The PKS faction considers that violence against women today not only occurs in the physical space, but also develops in the digital space," said Thamrin at the DKI Jakarta DPRD building, Wednesday, May 13.
PKS believes that protection for women is not enough to be interpreted as handling victims of violence. According to them, the regulation must also be part of efforts to maintain human dignity while strengthening the family institution.
The PKS faction assessed that technological developments open up new spaces for the emergence of forms of violence and exploitation against women. Therefore, the Ranperda is asked to be more adaptive to changes in crime patterns that are now occurring in the digital world.
Digital-based violence is said to have serious impacts, ranging from psychological pressure, damage to personal reputation, to disruption of the victim's social life. The PKS considers the impact to be no less great than physical violence.
On this basis, the PKS asked that the rules regarding digital violence be regulated in more detail and firmly in the Perlindungan Perempuan Ranperda.
In addition to the substance of the rules, the PKS also encourages the strengthening of the legal basis in the preparation of the Ranperda. According to them, synchronization with national regulations is important so that the implementation of the Perda will be stronger legally.
"The addition of the consideration of the ITE Law and the Law on Sexual Violence in the recalling clause, in order to strengthen the legal basis of this Raperda," said Thamrin.
The PKS considers that strengthening legal considerations is necessary so that regional regulations have a direct relationship with national regulations, especially in handling cases of sexual violence and digital-based violence that continue to develop.
