AHY Reveals 76 Options for Vulnerable Train Crossings, Flyovers to Closures

JAKARTA - The government has begun mapping the vulnerable points of train crossings after the accident at Bekasi Timur Station. Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) revealed that there were at least 76 crossings per piece in Java and part of Sumatra that were evaluated.

AHY said the government had prepared a number of steps, ranging from the construction of a drawbridge, flyover, underpass, to the closure of vulnerable points.

"After we identify it, there are approximately 76 crossings in a piece that exist in the Java region and also part of Sumatra, which indeed need to be immediately developed, whether it is a train gate or flyover or underpass," said AHY at the Presidential Palace Complex, Jakarta, Tuesday, May 12.

In addition to physical development, the government has also prepared the modernization of the signaling system and a thorough evaluation of the train network.

AHY said the development of double-double track was also discussed by the government together with the Ministry of Transportation and PT KAI. However, the project still requires large planning and long time.

"What is clear is that we are also thinking about the development of the double-double track," he said.

According to AHY, the development of the national train network is part of President Prabowo Subianto's big vision. The focus is not only on passenger transportation, but also on logistics and commodity distribution.

The government is also preparing the development of the Trans-Sumatra, Trans-Kalimantan, and part of Sulawesi routes to strengthen interregional connectivity.

"The spirit is for public transportation, our safety is the main priority," said AHY.
