Government Targets Extreme Poverty to Zero Percent

Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for Social Empowerment Muhaimin Iskandar or popularly known as Cak Imin has said that the current government has designated 88 districts and cities as priorities for poverty alleviation.

The target is for extreme poverty to fall to 0 percent by the end of 2026. This was conveyed by Cak Imin at the Presidential Palace Complex, Jakarta, Tuesday, May 12. Cak Imin also said that all ministries and agencies were asked to concentrate on these 88 areas.

Cak Imin further said that the national poverty rate in 2024 was at the level of 8.57 percent. In 2025 it fell to 8.25 percent. This year the government is pursuing a figure of 7.36 percent. For extreme poverty, the figure in 2024 is 0.99 percent. In 2025 it fell to 0.78 percent.

The government targets a maximum of 0.38 percent, even 0 percent by the end of 2026. Cak Imin also reported to President Prabowo, the social protection budget in the state budget had reached Rp508.2 trillion. The budget includes cash social assistance, the Family Hope Program or PKH, to assistance for National Health Insurance premiums.

However, the big job is not just distributing assistance. The government wants all programs to be based on a single social economic data so that the assistance is not addressed incorrectly. According to Cak Imin, President Prabowo ordered all ministries and agencies to consistently use this data in distributing government programs.

He also said that energy subsidies would be targeted more accurately. Several special policies related to poverty alleviation will be announced directly by President Prabowo.
