Aespa Collaborates with G-Dragon in “WDA”, Enters Top 10 iTunes Indonesia
JAKARTA - Aespa released the pre-release single "WDA" or "Whole Different Animal" from their second full album, "Lemonade". This song immediately caught the attention because it partnered with G-Dragon and entered the top 10 iTunes Top Songs in 17 countries, including Indonesia.
Quoted from Yonhap, Tuesday, May 12, SM Entertainment stated that "WDA" was released on Tuesday as the opener to aespa's new album which is scheduled to be released on May 29 at 13.00 Korean time.
"WDA" is a hip-hop-based dance song. The music uses a majestic bass synthesizer and a heavy hook. G-Dragon also contributed a featured verse and was involved in making the rap for his part.
The music video for "WDA" raises the question of "what is real" in an era when the boundaries between original works and copies, as well as the real and virtual worlds, are becoming blurred.
SM said the scene of the bus collision and the collapsed clone was used to build a sense of anxiety about mass reproduction. This theme is in line with the world of aespa, who have been playing at the intersection of physical and digital reality since their debut.
In aespa's concept, the real world and the digital world meet through their virtual characters known as "ae-aespa". So, "WDA" is not only a new song, but also a continuation of the story that has been the identity of this group since the beginning.
The album "Lemonade" will contain 10 songs, including "WDA". After the album's release, aespa is scheduled to embark on a new world tour in August with a concert in Seoul.
The tour will continue to a number of cities, including Taipei, Sao Paulo, and Mexico City.
