The perpetrator of the terror of burning the house of the residents of Matraman is suspected of having a mental disorder.

JAKARTA - Police brought the perpetrators of the terror of arson that occurred at several points in the Pisangan Baru Village, Matraman District, East Jakarta, on Sunday (10/5) early morning, to the Kramat Jati Police Hospital for a psychiatric examination.

"Just now, around 13.30 WIB, the perpetrator was taken to the Kramat Jati Police Hospital for examination," said Matraman Police Chief Kompol Suripno, ANTARA, Tuesday.

According to him, the perpetrator must be taken to the Police Hospital to investigate his mental condition.

"Yes, to undergo psychological and psychiatric examinations to determine whether the person concerned has a mental disorder," said Suripno.

In addition, the examination was also carried out so that the legal handling of the perpetrators was carried out appropriately and in accordance with the actual conditions.

The police do not want to take hasty steps before there is an official result from the medical team regarding the perpetrator's mental condition.

"So, we know what the next step is like, if it is proven that there is indeed a mental disorder or not," said Suripno.

According to him, during the initial examination process, the perpetrator several times admitted that he regretted his actions. However, on the other hand, the perpetrator also admitted that he had received encouragement or whispers that made him continue to carry out the burning.

"He admitted that he regretted it over and over again, but sometimes there were whispers so that it continued to be done because it was pushed," said Suripno.

On the other hand, the police received information from the family that the perpetrator was known as a very quiet and closed figure in everyday life. Even to his own biological mother, the perpetrator is said to rarely communicate.

"His son is very quiet. With his biological mother, you can count how many times he speaks. He is not the type to hang out, he is more of a loner," said Suripno.

Therefore, he emphasized that the psychiatric examination was important to prevent mistakes in making legal decisions.

"Later, if we just arbitrarily detain them, it turns out that there is indeed a mental disorder, it is not right either. But if we just let them go, residents will think that we are releasing the perpetrators without a process," said Suripno.

Currently, the police are still waiting for the results of the examination from the Polri Hospital regarding the psychological and psychiatric condition of the perpetrator. The results will later become the basis for determining the follow-up handling of the case.

In addition, the police also plan to call local government elements, such as sub-district heads, sub-district heads, and RT and RW managers if the results of the examination show that the perpetrator really has a mental disorder.

The summoning of these elements was carried out to discuss social handling of perpetrators in their living environment.

"So that there is a handling and the community can also accept the condition clearly," said Suripno.

Previously, the Matraman Police secured a man with the initials A (24) who was suspected of being the perpetrator of the terror of burning at several points in the Pisangan Baru Village, Matraman District, East Jakarta.
