Trump threatens Iran: Fingers on the trigger, but focus on sustainable peace

JAKARTA - Iranian Government Spokesperson Fatemeh Mohajerani confirmed that her country is open to a peace deal and is not afraid of threats, especially the fiery rhetoric of US President Donald Trump.

"We fought against the world's largest military force for 40 days, and we are still ready to shoot and wait for a settlement through negotiations," the female spokesperson was quoted as saying by the ISNA news agency, Tuesday, May 12.

Mohajerani stressed that Iran is ready to respond to threats but the main focus remains on sustainable peace and diplomacy based on common interests.

"Our main focus is lasting peace, and as the late leader said, we pursue diplomatic issues with three principles of honor, wisdom, and practicality," he continued.

Previously, Trump continued to put pressure on Iran amid the US government's desire to present an agreement in the US-Iran negotiations.

Trump had threatened to target public infrastructure and energy facilities, even threatening to destroy Iranian civilization, if there was no deal with the US in the near future.

Most recently, according to a report by CNN International citing presidential aides, Trump this week threatened to resume the war by launching a large-scale military operation against Iran.

Trump wants peace but continues to use fiery diplomacy against Iran. Trump is said to have become frustrated with the limited closure of the Strait of Hormuz, which was Iran's response to a joint US-Israeli attack in the previous 40-day war.
