Economic Implosion, Purworejo Street Vendors Selling Cakes

JAKARTA - The police arrested a street musician with the initials RDA (32) who committed theft with a charge at the "Aroma Jaya" Cake and Plastic Materials Shop on Jalan Letjend Suprapto, Purworejo Regency.

Deputy Head of the Purworejo Police, Kompol Nana Edi Sugito, said the perpetrator, who was caught in an economic problem, committed the theft spontaneously after finishing the karaoke.

"The suspect initially peddled in the Mranti red light area. While sitting in the city park, he saw the victim's shop building and immediately had the intention to steal because he didn't have any money," he said in Purworejo, Tuesday, quoted by Antara.

He said, by taking advantage of the pile of rongsok sacks next to the store, the perpetrator climbed the wall and climbed onto the zinc roof. The perpetrator then shifted the zinc and broke the wood to enter the store.

"After successfully entering, the suspect emptied the cash drawer and took Rp3.5 million in cash and two mobile phones belonging to the victim named Ana (48)," said Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of Purworejo Police, AKP Dwiyono.

He added, in the action the perpetrator had left evidence in the form of a black hat on the roof of the store. The trail then helped the police identify the perpetrator.

After conducting a search, the perpetrator was known to have sold one Samsung brand mobile phone for Rp. 450 thousand and pawned another Itel brand mobile phone for Rp. 550 thousand before being arrested by officers.

Currently, RDA has been detained at the Purworejo Police Detention House for further legal proceedings. He was charged with Article 477 paragraph (1) letter f of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code with a maximum penalty of seven years in prison.
