Say: Kou Expels Emotions and Anxiety through New Single "Monochrome"

JAKARTA - Tangerang-based alternative rock band Say:Kou has once again confirmed its existence in the independent music scene with the release of its latest single titled "Monochrome".

This work is their fourth bullet after previously greeting listeners through a series of songs such as "Living Hell", "Incomplete", and "K.a.R.M.A".

"Monochrome" is not just a song about a common heartbreak, but a manifestation of frustration when someone is forced to move forward when the mind is still stuck in the past.

Through his latest single, Say:Kou tries to portray the most vulnerable side of a breakup - weaving a narrative about a thick wall called reality, where time is impossible to rewind and acceptance is the only painful way out.

Fauzy (vocals) emphasized that this song is a space for those who are trapped in memories but are required to become more mature figures.

"The point is this is a sad song. What has happened cannot be repeated and we cannot turn back time. We have to be willing and learn from the incident to be a better person," said Fauzy in his statement, Tuesday, May 12.

In line with the vocalist, Eko (guitar) explained that the title "Monochrome" was chosen to describe the explosion of emotions from souls who are used to holding feelings.

The rock arrangement that is carried out is not without reason; the distortion of the guitar and the firm drum sound are deliberately used to wrap the melancholy melody so that the impression of anxiety is conveyed directly to the listener.

"'Monochrome' can be said to be a picture of when someone who rarely talks, finally expresses all the emotions he has felt and suppressed," added Eko.

Even though the production process is carried out separately at several points. Other personnel - Bima (guitar), Agung (bass), and Hanif (drums) - ensure that the technical separation during recording actually gives space for each instrument to breathe before finally being combined in the mixing and mastering stages.

The presence of "Monochrome" on various digital streaming platforms is expected to be able to become a friend for listeners who are in a similar phase. With energetic arrangements but poignant lyrics, Say:Kou proves that they remain loyal to the alternative rock path that has been carried since 2015.

Bima closed by hoping that this song would become a collective moment for fans to sing together on stage in the future.

"Hopefully this song can represent friends who are also upset and can sing along when we perform later," concluded Bima.
