Iran Allows Iraqi Miyayk Tanker to Pass through the Strait of Hormuz
JAKARTA - Iran has allowed the Agios Fanourios I oil tanker to pass through the Strait of Hormuz via a designated route.
As reported by ANTARA from Sputnik, the tanker was carrying Iraqi oil and was heading to Nghi Son Port in Vietnam, according to the Tasnim News Agency on Monday, April 11.
On February 28, the United States and Israel launched an attack on Iran, causing damage and casualties among civilians. Then, on April 7, the US and Iran announced a ceasefire and continued negotiations in Islamabad, which ended without results.
Trump also agreed to extend the ceasefire to give Iran time to submit a "comprehensive proposal".
The escalation of tensions almost halted traffic in the Strait of Hormuz, which is a key route for the shipment of oil and liquefied natural gas from Persian Gulf countries to global markets, thus pushing up fuel prices.
On May 3, Trump announced "Project Freedom" operations to help ships held in the Strait of Hormuz continue their journey.
However, two days later, Trump decided to temporarily halt the operation to see if a peace deal with Iran could be reached.
