Dozens of Zipur Waena Cooperative Shops Burned, the Cause is Still Being Investigated

JAKARTA - The Head of the Jayapura City Police, Kombes Fredrickus Maclarimboen, said that until now the cause of the fire that burned down 11 Zipur Waena Cooperative stores (ruko), Heram District, Jayapura City.

"The cause of the fire that occurred has not yet been determined. The investigation is still being carried out, including asking for information from witnesses," he said, quoted by ANTARA, Saturday, May 9.

From the report received, it was revealed that the fire was allegedly from the shop house number 5 owned by Samsul Aim after a witness saw smoke coming from the ceiling of the building.

The fire quickly grew and spread to other buildings so that the community together with the Den Zipur 10/KYD picket members tried to put out the fire using various existing equipment while waiting for additional assistance.

Around 16.35 WIT, the AWC vehicle of the Jayapura City Police together with the AWC of the Papua Police arrived at the location and immediately helped the fire extinguishing process.

The extinguishing efforts were also assisted by the Jayapura City Fire Service and AWC Brimob Polda Papua until the fire was successfully extinguished at around 17.28 WIT.

"It is not yet certain how much the fire has caused losses," said Iptu Andry Rihulay.
