Prabowo Targets 1,386 Fishing Villages to be Inaugurated This Year

President Prabowo Subianto targets that in December 2026 the government will inaugurate 1,386 Red and White Fishing Villages/Villages throughout Indonesia in a working visit to Miangas, Talaud Islands, North Sulawesi.

President Prabowo said this plan is an effort to improve the welfare of fishermen.

"So this year, in December, we will inaugurate 1,386 fishing villages throughout Indonesia. Hopefully there will be one fishing village here (Miangas) in the near future," said President Prabowo as reported by ANTARA, Saturday, May 9.

President Prabowo emphasized that the development of the fisheries sector is one of the government's priorities this year.

According to him, the development and improvement of the welfare of fishermen throughout Indonesia will be carried out on a large scale.

"We will massively improve the conditions of fishermen throughout Indonesia, we will improve starting this year," he said.

The President said that the development of fishing villages was designed to be fast. In fact, if construction begins next month, it is estimated that the community will be able to enjoy the facilities in about five months.

During this visit, the government also handed over assistance in the form of one fishing boat measuring 15 gross tons (GT) with a crew capacity of around five people.

In addition to the ship assistance, the President ensured that the government would build a special fishing village equipped with various modern facilities to support fishing activities, such as cold storage warehouses, and fishermen's gas stations.

He emphasized that construction would begin this year and asked all parties to ensure that it was implemented on time.
