An Everton Supporter Arrested for Allegedly Making Racist Insults against Antoine Semenyo
JAKARTA - A 71-year-old supporter was arrested for allegedly racially abusing Manchester City striker Antoine Semenyo in an English League match against Everton, on Tuesday, May 5, 2026.
Everton said Merseyside Police arrested a 71-year-old man on suspicion of a racially motivated public order offence after supporters and staff at the Hill Dickinson Stadium reported the incident.
"Racism and discrimination in any form are absolutely unacceptable," Everton said in a statement.
Manchester City said it welcomed the swift action taken by Everton and police to identify the individual responsible.
Semenyo was the target in a similar incident in an earlier English League match at Liverpool's home, when he was still playing for AFC Bournemouth in the opening match of the season.
The Ghanaian player was allegedly racially abused by a Liverpool supporter while preparing to throw in during Bournemouth's 2-4 defeat at Anfield in August 2025.
The match was temporarily stopped so that the man could be removed from the stadium. He will be tried in court later this year.
Manchester City also condemned online racist abuse aimed at defender Marc Guehi after the 3-3 draw against Everton.
"We will continue to provide full support to Antoine and Marc and will never accept discrimination of any kind in our game," read the Citizens' statement.
