West Java Cultural Figures Protest Road Project that Threatens Batu Tulis Cultural Heritage

BOGOR - The road construction project in the Batu Tulis area, Bogor, triggered a protest by West Java cultural activists. They assessed that the Bogor City Government ignored the threat of damage to the Batu Tulis Lawang Gintung Sumur Tujuh Cultural Heritage.

The action of concern was held in Bogor, Friday, May 8, 2026. The crowd came from the Pakwan Pajajaran Kabuyutan Forum and a number of cultural activists from various districts and cities in West Java.

The forum was led by Tb Lutfi Suyudi. The action was attended by around 100 people with field coordinator Y Firman Hidayat.

They were disappointed because the Sumur Tujuh and Bunker Mandiri areas were said to be affected by the road construction project. In fact, the area is considered part of the Batu Tulis Lawang Gintung Cultural Heritage which has been recorded in state documents.

The culturalists admitted that they had repeatedly asked the Bogor City Government and related agencies to change the construction route so that it did not pass through the cultural heritage area. However, the request was said to have not received a serious response.

Disappointment was also triggered by a landslide on Danasasmita Road, which is still in the Batu Tulis area. They said the road had not been completed for more than a year. If left alone, the landslide is feared to spread and threaten the surrounding historical sites.

This issue has previously been reported to the Bogor City Police. The report was recorded with Number LP/B/732/X/2025/SPKT/Polresta Bogor City on October 23, 2025. The reporter suspected that there was a violation of Law Number 11 of 2010 concerning Cultural Heritage.

However, culturalists assess that the handling of the report is slow and the development is not clear.

The action was accepted by the General Chair of the West Java Sundanese Custom Assembly, Abah H Anton Charliyan. In a dialogue with the action participants, Abah Anton promised to continue the aspirations to the Governor of West Java, the Bogor City Government, and related institutions.

"We will immediately convey this aspiration to the Governor of West Java, the Bogor City Government, and related institutions so that this cultural heritage issue can be followed up," said Abah Anton.

The action was peaceful. At the end of the activity, the representative of the culturalists handed over a letter of aspiration to Abah Anton to be forwarded to the Governor of West Java, the Mayor of Bogor, the Bogor Police Chief, the Minister of Culture, and the National Police Chief.
