Minister of Communication and Information Meutya: There is No Compromise on Digital Crimes
JAKARTA - The Ministry of Communication and Digital and the National Police of the Republic of Indonesia (Polri) have reaffirmed their commitment to uncompromisingly eradicate increasingly sophisticated digital crimes.
Starting from online gambling, online fraud, to crimes that target children and vulnerable groups, the state is present with firm action and cross-agency collaboration.
"We appreciate the National Police, which has greatly helped create a safer digital space. Crimes are now using a lot of digitalization and advanced technology. Therefore, we must massively increase the strengthening of digital services, both in terms of reporting and tracking," said Minister of Communication and Information Meutya Hafid in an official broadcast.
According to Meutya, inter-agency collaboration is the key to hunting down organized and complex digital crime syndicates and perpetrators.
"Online gambling, scams, and various crimes that target children and vulnerable groups must be dealt with more harshly. This year, next year, and so on. There is no tolerance," he said.
Meanwhile, the National Police Chief, General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, also emphasized that technological developments bring new legal gaps that must be anticipated together.
Therefore, he added, the National Police will continue to improve human resources capacity, professionalism, and cooperation to pursue technology-based transnational crimes.
In addition to strict enforcement, the government is also actively strengthening protection for vulnerable groups and encouraging the improvement of people's digital and legal literacy, including the implementation of the new Criminal Code (KUHP) and the Code of Criminal Procedure (KUHAP).
