Trump Warns Iran to Sign Deal Immediately After Attack on US Ship in Strait of Hormuz
JAKARTA - President Donald Trump said on Thursday the US military had destroyed Iranian attackers targeting three US Navy destroyers as they crossed the Strait of Hormuz, warning "we will destroy them harder, and much more brutally" if Iran did not immediately sign a deal.
"Three new world-class American destroyers just crossed the Strait of Hormuz very successfully, under fire. There was no damage to the three destroyers, but great damage was done to the Iranian attackers," Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social, as reported by CNN (8/5).
"They were totally destroyed along with many small boats, which were used to replace their Navy which had been completely destroyed," he continued.
"Missiles were fired at our destroyer, and easily taken down. Likewise, drones came, and were burned while in the air," Trump explained.
"Similarly, the drones came, and they burned up in the air. They fell so beautifully into the ocean, like butterflies falling into their graves!" he said.
President Trump warned Iran not to escalate further, writing "if they had the chance to use Nuclear Weapons, they would do it, without hesitation - But they will never have that chance and, as we have beaten them again today, we will beat them much harder, and much more cruelly, in the future, if they don't sign the Deal, ASAP!"

Trump's post came after the United States Central Command said US forces attacked an Iranian military facility responsible for launching missile, drone and small boat attacks described as "unprovoked" against American warships crossing the strait.
As previously reported, Iran accused the United States of carrying out an attack in its territory and violating a ceasefire agreement, following reports of explosions in the country on Thursday night.
An Iranian military spokesman said US airstrikes hit civilian areas along the coast of Qeshm Island, Bandar Khamir and Sirik, CNN reported.
He also claimed that the US violated the ceasefire by targeting an Iranian oil tanker heading to the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran responded with "reciprocal action" by attacking US military vessels east of the strait and south of the port of Chabahar, the spokesman said in a video broadcast by state media.
Later, the United States Central Command (US CENTCM) said on Thursday that US forces targeted Iranian military facilities responsible for a series of "unprovoked" missile, drone and small boat attacks on American warships crossing the Strait of Hormuz.
"US forces intercepted the Iranian attack without provocation and retaliated with a defensive strike when a US Navy guided missile destroyer crossed the Strait of Hormuz towards the Gulf of Oman, May 7," CENTCOM said in a press release.
Iranian facilities targeted by US forces include "missile and drone launch sites, command and control locations; and intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance nodes," according to CENTCOM.
"Iranian forces launched multiple missiles, drones, and small boats as USS Truxtun (DDG 103), USS Rafael Peralta (DDG 115), and USS Mason (DDG 87) transited international waterways. No US assets were exposed to the attack," CENTCOM added.
An Iranian state media report said commercial facilities at the Bahman Pier on Qeshm Island had been targeted in a shootout between Iranian security forces and "enemies."
In its statement, US Central Command said US forces "do not seek escalation" but the military is "ready to protect US forces."
