Lexus TZ Launched, Toyota Prepares a 620 Km Family Electric Car

JAKARTA - Toyota introduced the Lexus TZ, the first three-row electric SUV from the luxury brand Lexus. This car will be launched in Japan this winter and is aimed at family consumers.

As reported by Kyodo News, Thursday, May 7, Toyota introduced the model at the Toyota Technical Center Shimoyama, Aichi Prefecture, Thursday. In addition to Japan, the Lexus TZ is also prepared for the North American, European, and Chinese markets. The price of this car has not been announced.

The Lexus TZ shows Toyota's new direction in the premium electric car market. Electric cars are no longer just playing in a small segment or futuristic sedans. Toyota is now entering the family room: a spacious cabin, three rows of seats, and long mileage.

For the Japanese market, the Lexus TZ is claimed to be able to travel 620 kilometers on a single charge. This car also offers a spacious cabin and the typical silence of Lexus, two things that make premium cars attractive.

"TZ represents a new standard in electrified luxury utility vehicles," said Simon Humphries, Toyota's operations officer in charge of design, quoted by Kyodo News, at the world premiere of the model.

According to Humphries, the silent electric drive, combined with a rigid body structure, makes the TZ cabin have more controlled acoustic qualities.

Toyota says the Lexus TZ will be available in 11 body colors. This model is expected to appeal to family consumers who want an electric car, but still need a large space, high comfort, and long range.

On the same occasion, Toyota also showed a test track at the Toyota Technical Center Shimoyama to journalists. The facility, which will be fully operational in 2024, is used primarily for the development of Lexus and GR Sport vehicles, including road tests and performance refinements.
