Spotify Launches New 'Verified' Badge to Guarantee Artist Authenticity

JAKARTA - Spotify introduced the 'Verified by Spotify' badge as a form of transparency. This feature is designed to ensure that the songs you listen to really come from the musician.

If a user sees a light green checkmark icon on a profile, the badge indicates that the profile has been rigorously reviewed by the Spotify team. This is one of Spotify's efforts to provide insight into the music and artists that users find.

To get the badge, an artist must show consistent listener activity and engagement over a long period of time. Spotify doesn't just look at a spike in popularity for a short time, but rather an artist's commitment to working in the music industry.

In addition, uploaded content must comply with all platform policies without violating the rules. The authenticity of the artist's identity is also verified through the existence of concerts, merchandise sales, to connected social media accounts.

Spotify ensures that this verification badge will not be given to persona or music accounts that are entirely generated by Artificial Intelligence (AI). The company wants to prioritize human artists who make a real contribution.

The new badge is being rolled out gradually to search results and artist profiles over the next few weeks. More than 99 percent of artists actively sought by listeners are targeted to have a verified status at launch.

Spotify claims that the majority of verified artists come from independent labels that cover a variety of genres and geographic regions. Their main focus is to reward creators who have active fan interest rather than just passive background music providers.
