Janice Langsung Eliminated in the First Round of the 2026 Italian Open

JAKARTA - Janice Tjen was immediately eliminated early in the first round of the 2026 WTA 1000 Italian Open due to losing in a two-game match against the American player, Peyton Stearns.

The Jakarta-born tennis player was leading at the beginning of the match, but eventually had to admit his opponent's advantage in one hour and 25 minutes with a final score of 4-6 and 4-6 on Court 13 of the Foro Italico, Rome, Italy, on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, WIB night.

Janice started the first set with a very good performance, taking advantage of two serves and managed to take one break point in the second game to take a 3-0 lead. He then held two break points against his opponent in the fifth game to get away 4-1.

Unfortunately, after the big lead, Janice lost two serves and failed to convert two break points. On the other hand, Stearns played so solid to score five consecutive points so that he could secure the set.

In the second game, Janice also had the opportunity to take the score after he managed to lead 3-1 by thwarting three break points against his opponent in the fourth game. However, Stearns then easily tied the score.

Janice had turned the advantage after he made good use of the service in the seventh game. Unfortunately, he only got two more points after that in the eighth and ninth games when he lost the service and failed to get a break.

After that, Janice then reached the second round at the Madrid Open before failing again in the early stages.

The 2026 Italian Open is the 12th tournament Janice has competed in so far this calendar year. Her best run of all those opportunities was reaching the third round at the Dubai Championship.

Meanwhile, the result against Janice made Stearns advance to the second round to face compatriot Madison Keys. The tennis player who has the status of the 17th seed got a blank draw in the first round.
