Rais Aam and Ketum PBNU Agree to NU Congress in Early August
SURABAYA - Rais Aam, the General Manager of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) KH Miftachul Akhyar and the General Chairman of PBNU agreed to hold the 35th Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) Congress in early August 2026 after a meeting of senior kiai in Surabaya on Tuesday (5/5) evening.
"Rais Aam encourages the 35th NU Congress to be held on August 1-5, 2026 and approved by the Ketum of the PBNU," said PBNU Katib KH Ahmad Tajul Mafakhir as reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, May 6.
He explained that a number of senior kiai from the ranks of the Syuriyah PBNU visited the residence of Rais Aam PBNU KH Miftachul Akhyar in Surabaya as part of the consolidation of the organization and support for accelerating the implementation of the congress.
"Tuesday night's meeting is part of the deliberation of the senior kiai to ensure that the muktamar runs well, smoothly, and brings benefits to the jama'iyah," said KH Ahmad Tajul Mafakhir.
A number of kiai who attended the meeting included KH Anwar Iskandar, KH Afifuddin Muhajir, KH Aniq Muhammadun, KH Sadid Jauhari, KH Muhibbul Aman Aly, KH Tonthowi Jauhari Musaddad, and KH Imam Buchori.
KH Ahmad Tajul Mafakhir added that the PBNU Rais Aam had also summoned the PBNU General Chair to the PBNU office on Wednesday to discuss the technical preparations for the muktamar.
"Rais Aam PBNU asked that the technical preparations be completed immediately, so that the implementation of the 35th NU Congress does not experience obstacles," he said.
