Police Arrest Thieves Who Operated in 7 Central Java Churches

SEMARANG - Central Java Police revealed thefts at a number of churches in the Boyolali and Semarang Regencies which occurred between March and April 2026.

The Deputy Head of the Criminal Investigation Directorate of the Central Java Regional Police, AKBP Helmy Tamaela, said that the BU perpetrator, a resident of Boyolali Regency, was arrested after acting in seven churches.

"The perpetrator acted alone, targeting a church that had minimal supervision," he said, quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, May 6.

He explained that the perpetrator who used a motorcycle acted at night to find a church with minimal security.

According to him, the perpetrator forcibly opened the door or window of the church and then took various musical instruments and electronic devices.

The disclosure of the case was carried out through a search on social media to find traces of the sale of stolen goods.

Most of the stolen goods have been sold by the perpetrators, while the rest are stored at his house.

The total losses due to the perpetrator's criminal acts, he said, amounted to IDR 151 million.

For his actions, the suspect was charged with Article 477 of the Criminal Code regarding theft.
