Support the Recommendation of the National Police Reform Acceleration Commission, Commission III of the DPR: The Police Remains Under the President

Member of Commission III of the House of Representatives Abdullah supports the recommendations submitted by the National Police Reform Acceleration Commission to President Prabowo Subianto. One of the most crucial points in the recommendation is the affirmation of the position of the National Police which remains directly under the President.

Abdullah assessed that the recommendation was the right step in strengthening the professionalism, accountability, and institutional governance of the police in the future.

"This recommendation is right. I have consistently voiced since the beginning that the National Police must remain under the President, not placed under the ministry. This position is important to maintain command effectiveness, institutional independence, and stability of the national security system," said Abdullah to reporters, Wednesday, May 6.

The National Police Reform Acceleration Commission previously submitted six main recommendations to the President. Namely, the affirmation that the position of the National Police remains under the President, the strengthening of the National Police Commission, the mechanism for appointing the National Police Chief, the arrangement for assigning members of the National Police outside the police institution, the strengthening of institutional and managerial aspects, and the revision of the National Police Law.

Abdullah also highlighted the importance of more stringent regulations regarding the assignment of members of the National Police outside the police institution, so that there is no controversy in the community.

According to him, the placement of Polri personnel in various state institutions must have a clear legal basis so as not to cause overlapping authorities and violations.

"The assignment of members of the National Police outside the institution must be clearly regulated, transparent, and accountable. Therefore, I agree that the revision of the Police Law is an urgent need so that this regulation has legal certainty," he explained.

Abdullah hopes that the recommendations that have been submitted by the Commission for the Acceleration of Polri Reform can be considered as strategic material for the government and parliament in encouraging a more comprehensive and professional Polri reform.

"And in accordance with the demands of democracy," he concluded.
