BYD's Dominance in the UK Electric Car Market Unstoppable

BYD takes a step forward in the UK by becoming the holder of the highest sales crown, beating several competitors such as BMW, Tesla to Volkswagen.

Citing Carscoops, Wednesday, May 6, according to data from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), BYD said it had sold 12,754 electric vehicles as of April and that gave them more than 7 percent of the market share.

The Chinese manufacturer also noted that the company has become the best-selling EV brand among private buyers, and this is an achievement worth noting because the company's vehicles do not qualify for local government subsidies.

BYD UK representative, Bono Ge, said that with fuel prices remaining high, more drivers are turning to electric vehicles as a smarter and more economical option.

"We are pleased to see the UK EV market grow by 22 percent year-on-year, and even more proud that BYD has become the leading EV brand in the UK in just over three years," Bono said.

BYD sales this year increased 124 percent to 26,396 units, putting the brand ahead of a number of European carmakers including Citroen, Land Rover, Cupra, Dacia, Mini to Renault.

As is known, BYD presents a series of car models such as Dolphin Surf to Sealion which offers advanced technology and promising mileage.
