Dead Pope Stranded on Jembrana Beach
JEMBRANA - A whale with a length of about fifteen meters was stranded dead on the beach of Jembrana Regency, Bali and became a spectacle for the surrounding residents.
"Tomorrow we will bury the whale after a thorough examination by veterinarians to analyze the cause of death," said Melaya Police Chief Kompol I Ketut Sukadana, quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, May 5.
This sperm type of whale is known to have been stranded on Anyarsari Beach, Nusasari Village, Melaya District, at around 14.00 WITA.
The information about the stranded whale was first known by a resident named I Putu Pulasari, who then quickly spread the information, including a report to the police.
"This whale was about 100 meters from the beach. Residents who watched it saw it moving, which was suspected to be alive when it was first found," he said.
However, according to him, when the tide went down the whale was no longer moving and when approached it was found to be dead with its head facing the sea.
In addition to officers from the Melaya Police, Polairud, and the Indonesian Navy, hundreds of residents came to watch the whale, which from the initial identification was female.
"The cause of death will be further examined by veterinarians tomorrow," said I Ketut Sukadana.
After being examined, he said, the plan was to immediately bury the whale at the location to avoid undesirable things, such as the stench from the carcass.
Head of the Water and Air Police Unit (Polairud) Deputy Commissioner of Police (AKP) Putu Suparta said his party together with related institutions carried out security at the location so that the situation was safe and conducive until the whale was buried.
