Mahfud MD: Andre Yunus case has been properly handled by the Military Court

JAKARTA - Constitutional law expert Mahfud MD emphasized that the Andre Yunus case is currently being handled properly through military courts. The basis is clear: the perpetrators who are processed come from the military element.

The statement was made by Mahfud at the Presidential Palace Complex, Jakarta, Tuesday, May 5. He answered questions about the possibility of the Andre Yunus case being brought to the public court.

"If the rules, it is indeed to the military court because the perpetrator is the military," said Mahfud.

However, Mahfud said that the legal path could change if during the investigation or trial process a new suspect from a civilian element was found. In this case, the case can be handled through the connectivity mechanism.

"Unless later a new suspect is found based on the facts of the trial or other civil investigations, it can be connected," he said.

According to Mahfud, for the current condition, handling the case is in accordance with the law. Because, there has been no explanation regarding the involvement of a civilian suspect in the case.

"But if what is now is legally correct," said the member of the National Police Reform Acceleration Committee.
