Yusril Submits Final Report of the National Police Reform Commission to the President

JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Legal, Human Rights, Immigration, and Corrections Yusril Ihza Mahendra submitted the final report on the work of the National Police Reform Acceleration Commission to President Prabowo Subianto at the Presidential Palace, Jakarta.

Yusril said he was invited directly by President Prabowo to report the results of the commission's work, which had been carrying out its duties for several months and completed its mandate about two months ago.

According to him, the report that was compiled had a diverse thickness, ranging from thousands of pages to a brief summary so that it was easy for the President to understand.

"There are reports as thick as 3,000 pages, there are 300 pages, some are only three pages. So, the President can read it briefly so that he can understand it well," said Yusril as reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, May 5.

He explained that the report contained various proposals and recommendations from the National Police Reform Acceleration Commission regarding the improvement of the police institution.

Furthermore, the government will wait for the President's direction after studying all the reports submitted.

Regarding the priority of the recommendations submitted, Yusril said that the delivery of details would be carried out directly by the Chairman of the National Police Reform Acceleration Commission, Jimly Asshiddiqiese, after the official report was received by the President.

"We have agreed not to announce it to the public before the report is handed directly to the President," he said.

Yusril emphasized that the recommendations submitted were substantial and had the potential to bring about major changes to the institutional system of the police. In fact, a number of proposals are considered to have an impact on the revision of the current Police Law.

"If approved, there will be implications for changes to the current Polri law," he added.
