Strengthen Business, Pertamina Patra Niaga Prepares 23 Candidates for Sailors through the 2026 Scholarship Program
JAKARTA - PT Pertamina Patra Niaga again continues the Sailor Candidate Scholarship Program as part of efforts to prepare maritime talents who are ready to support the company's ship fleet operations.
Targeting seven universities in Indonesia, this program will recruit 23 scholarship recipients who, after graduating, will be directly projected to work as ship crews at Pertamina Patra Niaga.
This program works together with the Pertamina Foundation and has been running since 2025. In the previous year, as many as 20 participants had received scholarships through this program.
Director of Logistics Armada PT Pertamina Patra Niaga Arif Yunianto said that this program not only focuses on educational assistance, but is part of the company's strategy in preparing sailor talent that meets operational needs.
"We designed this program as a pipeline of seafarers who are ready for operations. Not only providing access to education, but also opening a clear career path for scholarship recipients to be able to be directly involved in fleet operations," said Arif, Tuesday, May 5.
According to him, the need for maritime talents is increasingly relevant in line with the strategic role of the maritime sector in the distribution of national energy.
The Ministry of Transportation noted that there were around 1.4 million Indonesian sailors working in various countries, placing Indonesia as one of the five largest contributors of sailors in the world.
The commitment to strengthening national sailors is also reflected in the composition of the crew in the Pertamina Group fleet. Of the total 4,368 crew sailors, 4,090 crew or about 94 percent are Indonesian citizens.
This confirms that national maritime talent is an important part of maintaining the sustainability of energy fleet operations. The role of sailors in the downstream supply chain is also increasingly strategic, given that the marine fleet is a link between the supply point, refinery, terminal, and energy distribution area.
"In the context of Pertamina Patra Niaga, the fleet of ships plays a role in transporting crude oil, refinery products, fuels, and LPG to meet domestic energy needs," he continued.
Meanwhile, President Director of the Pertamina Foundation Agus Mashud S. Asngari explained that the Pertamina Foundation plays a role in ensuring that the implementation of the program runs in a structured and sustainable manner.
"We ensure that the entire process of the program, from selection, coaching, to monitoring scholarship recipients, is carried out comprehensively. Educational institutions, majors, and the number of recipients have been mapped from the beginning to be in line with the needs of the company," explained Agus.
He added that the selection process was carried out gradually to ensure that the selected participants not only meet the academic criteria, but also have the readiness to pursue the profession as a sailor.
For information, the series of the 2026 Sailor Candidate Scholarship Program begins with socialization on April 28-29, 2026, followed by the opening of registration on April 30 to May 22, 2026. The selection process will take place until the end of June, with the announcement of scholarship recipients scheduled for June 30, 2026, and the inauguration on July 3, 2026.
Pertamina Patra Niaga considers the strengthening of the talent of sailors as an important part of the sustainability of energy distribution operations.
With the support of competent ship crews, the company can maintain fleet readiness in support of the safe, reliable, and sustainable transportation of domestic energy.
