Meisya Amira Challenged to Play the Character of Tunawicara in the First Look of the Film Juminten Edan
JAKARTA - The horror film industry in the country is ready to present something different. Mercusuar Films in collaboration with Digital Frame Production has just released the first look for their latest thriller-horror project titled "Juminten Edan".
Directed by the duo Dedy Mercy and Jonathan Ozoh with a script by veteran writer Alim Sudio, this film brings a fresh but gripping premise. Instead of presenting a perfect protagonist, Juminten Edan instead places a woman with speech and hearing disabilities as the main axis of the story.
Synopsis: The Return That Leads to Disaster
The story focuses on the figure of Juminten (played by Meisya Amira) who returns to his island of birth after wandering for eight years. His return with his husband and child was initially greeted warmly by the extended family.
However, the happiness was only a moment. The atmosphere changed drastically when Juminten began to show unreasonable strange behavior. Terror began to envelop the remote island when Juminten both consciously and unconsciously - began to try to hurt his closest people, including his children and his own husband.
Meisya Amira's Challenge: Acting Without Words
For Meisya Amira, playing the character of Juminten is a big leap in her career. Without verbal dialogue, she must be able to convey deep trauma and dark secrets only through gestures and eye contact.
"The challenge is quite big because I have to give emotions without much dialogue. It's not easy to apply the feeling within those limitations, especially playing a character who is speechless," Meisya Amira said in her statement, Monday, May 4.
For the totality of the role, Meisya even had to learn sign language under the guidance of a special coach from the reading period until the filming ended.
"I bring all the trauma and background of that character into every scene so that what is felt becomes more honest," he added.
Social Message Behind the Terror Director Dedy Mercy emphasized that Juminten Edan is not just a horror film that sells jump scares. For him, this film is a miniature of social problems in the family wrapped in a gripping atmosphere.
"This film tells that in the modern era, sanity is actually born from people who are considered 'crazy'," said Dedy.
Meanwhile, actor Dimas Aditya, who plays Manto (Juminten's husband), highlights the emotional side of this film. According to him, the Manto character represents the power of love that transcends logic and fear.
"Love can overcome anything, even fear when seeing changes in the person we love," said Dimas.
Stars of the Senior and Junior Generation In addition to Meisya Amira and Dimas Aditya, this film is also strengthened by a row of actors across generations. Names such as Anne J Coto, Kukuh Prasetyo, Deden Bagaskara, to senior actor Bambang Oeban are confirmed to add depth to the story.
Hadir pula Wina Marrino, Sharon Jovian, Teguh Julianto, dan Maria Lituhayu yang akan melengkapi jajaran cast dalam misteri di pulau terpencil ini.
Juminten Edan is scheduled to terrorize movie screens across Indonesia in 2026. For lovers of psychological horror, this film promises a cinematic experience that is not only frightening, but also touches on the human side and past trauma.
